When Should Wax Leaf Ligustrum?

A broadleaf evergreen with fragrant white flowers, wax-leaf ligustrum (Ligustrum japonicum) blooms from mid-summer to fall with panicles of fragrant, white flowers. Growing to a mature height of 15 to 25 feet with an equally wide spread, wax-leaf ligustrum is an attractive screening or hedging plant that may also be used in the background of the mixed border.

How do I care for my Ligustrum?

  • When Ligustrum is young, it will require some water to help it form roots.
  • When properly grown, the majority of cultivars are quite drought resistant.
  • They, like so many other decorative plants, can not tolerate soil conditions that are consistently moist or wet, since this can result in root rot and other dangerous plant diseases in the long run.
  • As a result, be cautious not to over-water them!
