When Do You Put Udon Noodles Into Broth?

Do you add the noodles before or after the broth is cooked?

In almost all of the noodle soup recipes I’ve seen, the noodles are boiled and then drained separately before being added to the broth that has already been prepared. Any reason why I shouldn’t just throw in the dry noodles 10 minutes before the soup is finished and then add a little additional water or broth to make up for the amount of water or liquid that they take up?

Why do people Cook noodles separately from the soup?

When you cook them together, some people prefer to cook them separately since the water changes color somewhat, and they don’t want it (which is primarily wheat) in their soups. Another advantage is that you may prepare the soup ahead of time and only cook the noodles when you need them.

Do you add starch to soup to thicken noodles?

That is the method through which I prepare noodle soup. And, sure, it does provide a pleasant flavor to them. Just be careful not to add them too quickly, since it is possible to overcook the noodles if they are left in the boiling broth for an extended period of time. When adding starch to a cream-based soup, the necessary thickness is achieved.
